Privacy policy
Scribevo is a free writing assistant for people with dyslexia. It has no accounts, no adverts and no analytics. This page explains exactly what it reads, what it sends and what it keeps.
- Scribevo sends only the sentence being checked. It never sends the whole page, the web address or your other tabs.
- That sentence goes to the Scribevo service, which uses Groq Inc. (United States) to run the AI step.
- Scribevo keeps none of your writing on its servers.
- It never reads password, card, security-code, email or phone fields.
What Scribevo reads
Scribevo only reads text from a field when it is about to check it. That happens either because you asked (the floating button, Alt+W, or the right-click menu), or because auto-suggest is on and you paused typing.
It never reads:
- password fields, including ones temporarily shown as plain text
- card number, expiry and security-code fields
- one-time codes and two-factor authentication inputs
- email address and telephone number fields
- fields labelled as secrets, PINs, bank details, national ID numbers or medical information
- fields a website has marked as private (
data-scribevo="off",data-privateordata-sensitive)
Scribevo does not run at all on browser-internal pages, local files, sign-in pages (such as Google and Microsoft account pages), password-manager vaults or banking websites. When it can't tell what a field is for, it leaves it alone.
What is sent, and to whom
When Scribevo checks your writing, it sends only that sentence over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to the Scribevo correction service. No cookies or identifiers are sent with it.
The service first applies its own spelling rules. It then sends the sentence to Groq Inc., in the United States, which runs the AI language model that suggests the correction. Groq's own terms govern how they handle requests. If you would rather nothing was sent automatically, turn off Auto-suggest while typing in Scribevo's settings. Scribevo will then only check text when you ask it to.
Scribevo never sends your browsing history, the pages you visit, the web address you are on, or your settings.
What is stored
- On our servers: none of your writing. Service logs record only technical details: a random request number, how many characters and words were checked, whether a change was suggested, how long it took, and whether there was an error. The logging system is built so that it cannot record your text.
- On your device: your Scribevo settings and your list of sites where Scribevo is switched off. These are kept in Chrome's extension storage. If you have Chrome sync turned on, Chrome syncs these settings between your own devices through your Google account.
There is no database of users, no account, no advertising identifier and no analytics.
Training AI models
We do not keep your writing, so we never use it to train anything.
Your controls
- Turn Scribevo off for a single website, or pause it everywhere, from its settings.
- Turn off auto-suggest so text is only checked when you ask.
- Nothing in your writing changes until you accept a suggestion.
- Uninstalling Scribevo removes it and everything it stored in your browser.
Children
Scribevo does not ask for or collect personal information from anyone. Students under 16 should use it with the agreement of a parent, guardian or their school.
Your rights and contact
Scribevo is made by Salem Elatrash in Dublin, Ireland. Because Scribevo keeps no writing and no accounts, there is normally no personal data held about you. If you have any question about privacy, or want to use your rights under the GDPR, email salem.elatrash@outlook.com. You can also complain to Ireland's Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If a change affects what Scribevo sends or to whom, it will also be noted in the extension's release notes.
